Why Philippine Missions?
Many people, when thinking of the Philippines, think
that it is a Christian nation. That is just not true. Just because someone
mentions Jesus in their Church, does not mean they are Christian.
There are Churches that will tell you Jesus is not God or that He is only an Angel or some other non-truth. The mission of our church is to preach the gospel to the Philippines as it is found in the Holy Bible. Philippine Missions, should be approached with an understanding that most filipinos have acquired their belief systems from previous generations and not personal decisions. The mission of those coming to the Philippines to evangelize, should be to inform the filipino of the profound statements of the Bible concerning death and salvation. This is a most important mission and should not be taken lightly. The average filipino is intelligent and I believe, is seeking God. Once the true Gospel of Jesus Christ is accepted in the Philippines, it is likely that the economic, moral, health and all phases of living will improve greatly. Missions in the Philippines have been historically, slow going. Even the filipinos themselves for the most part, fail to see the dire need for missions in their own Country and send their mission teams to Countries other than the Philippines. This has left wide gaps within the Philippines and it's missions effort. I believe that all of us missions minded, whether living outside of the Philippines or those interested in Christian Missions work within the Philippines, should focus on stregthening the missions people already in the Philippines and encourage more mission projects within the Philippine borders. Also, the work of discipleship is very important. Just getting a confession of faith does relatively nothing for Philippine Missions. We need to train up those who genuinely come to Christ so that in turn they will become part of the broader missions effort in the Philippines. In Conclusion, when the focus of Philippine Missions is directed towards ongoing Missions projects and discipleship programs are escalated greatly, we will see a huge increase in actual, born again Christians in the Philippines. Also, as that trend continues, it will be only natural that many will become missionaries here and to the uttermost parts of the earth. |
